Flying to Mauritius from London, Paris, or Frankfurt: What to Know Before You Book
Let's address the elephant in the room: Mauritius is far. If you're picturing a quick weekend hop, this isn't that. But "far" doesn't mean "difficult," and once you know what you're actually working with, the flight stops being the scary part of planning your wedding or honeymoon here.
From London
Air Mauritius and British Airways both operate non-stop flights from London, with a flight time of around 11 hours and 50 minutes. Heathrow to Mauritius is the busiest route between the two countries, and there are roughly 20 flights a week departing London overall. Flights from Heathrow typically depart on Fridays and Sundays, returning Saturdays and Mondays; handy to know if you're trying to plan an efficient long weekend around a short trip, though for a wedding you'll obviously want more time than that on the ground.
From Paris
Direct flights from Paris are available with Air Mauritius and Air France, making France one of the more convenient European departure points, alongside London.
From Frankfurt (and Germany more broadly)
Only three major German airports offer direct flights to Mauritius: Frankfurt, Cologne, and Munich, so if you're flying from elsewhere in Germany, expect a connection first. Frankfurt to Mauritius is actually the fastest direct route from Europe, at around 12.6 hours, operated by Condor and Discover Airlines, with about 4 direct flights a week. If direct flights aren't running on your dates, British Airways via London and Air France via Paris offer regular connecting options from almost all German airports.
So, Roughly What Will It Cost?
Pricing swings a lot by season and how far ahead you book, so treat any number as a starting point rather than gospel; but as a benchmark, a Frankfurt–Mauritius flight has been listed from around €645. Expect similar or slightly lower from London and Paris given the higher flight frequency and competition on those routes. Booking several months ahead, and avoiding the European summer and Christmas peak weeks, will meaningfully help your budget.
Best Time to Book
If your wedding or trip date is flexible at all, booking outside the busiest European holiday windows (especially European summer and the Christmas/New Year period) tends to get you better fares and more flight options, since that's when demand to escape to the sun peaks hardest.
What the Actual Day of Travel Looks Like
An 11 to 12-hour direct flight sounds daunting, but it's genuinely one of the easier long-haul routes: no layover, no rushing through a connecting airport, just one long flight and you land. Mauritius also sits only 2-3 hours ahead of UK/French/German time depending on the season, so jet lag is mild to nonexistent; you'll likely feel more tired from the travel itself than from any time difference, and that usually resolves within a day.
Our Honest Advice
Book your flights as early as your plans allow, go direct if you can (it genuinely makes the day easier), and don't let the flight time talk you out of it by the time you're watching the sunset over Le Morne with a glass of something cold in hand, eleven hours in economy will feel like a very small price for this view.
